COLLABORATIVE WEBINAR: OAHQ - Stop Falling Down”: The SPOT Patient Fall Prevention Program. (CE 1.0)

Designed and implemented to reduce patient falls and related injuries, the S.P.O.T. program’s basic pillars of Safety, Prevention, Observation, and Teamwork apply to most other performance improvement activities.  With concrete examples, participants will come away from this webinar with the ability to apply demonstrated methodologies for strengthening their own safety culture.


Learning Objectives

     • Participants will be able to recite the basic pillars of the S.P.O.T. patient fall prevention program: Safety, Prevention, Observation and Teamwork.

     • Participants will be able to define culture of safety as it applies to a health care facility.

     • Participants will be able to describe the characteristics of a strong culture of safety.

     • Participants will be able to apply methodologies for assessing and strengthening culture of safety.

     • Participants will be able to compare and contrast reactive and proactive prevention strategy.


Speaker:

Terry R. Winemiller,

BSN, RN, CPHQ, is the Senior Performance Improvement RN for Clinical Risk Management and Patient Safety at University Hospitals St. John Medical Center in Westlake, Ohio. Terry has worked in a variety of healthcare roles for over 45 years, beginning as a

Phlebotomist in 1979. Terry is a proud graduate of the University of Akron College of Nursing and has been an RN since 1986. Terry has worked for more than 30 years in Healthcare Quality with experience in utilization management, case management, population-based healthcare, clinical outcomes and clinical analytics, risk management and patient

safety among others. Terry has been in his current role of Patient Safety Officer at UH SJMC since 2019 and considers this role to be one of his best jobs ever! Time away from work is typically spent

enjoying the beautiful outdoors of the Buckeye State. He enjoys fishing, boating, hunting, golf, and a warm campfire with family and friends.
